Lindsay Lohan Begins Serving 90-Day Jail Sentence

Lindsay Lohan arrived yesterday morning at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, a suburb of Los Angeles, to begin  serving her 90-day sentence for probation violation.

As the actress was cuffed and led out of the courtroom in Beverly Hills Tuesday morning, her father Michael Lohan said, "We love you, Lindsay."   Lohan arrived in court ten minutes late, accompanied by her mother Dina and little sister Ali.  Outside the courtroom, a small group of people waved "Free Lindsay" signs.

Even though Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail, her stay may only be for a faction of that time.  Los Angeles Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told People, "She is scheduled to be released on either August 1st or 2nd for overcrowding issues and good behavior."  That would mean Lindsay would only serve about two weeks of the sentence.  Whitmore also confirmed that the 24-year-old actress star is being kept in isolation, away from the general jail population because of her notoriety.  That may be a wise move -- E! News reports an insider at the jail claims Lohan isn't going to be little miss popular because the other inmates "can't wait to [bleep] with her."

Lindsay's former lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, was by her side in court Tuesday, a week after quitting the case and being replaced by Robert Shapiro, who himself stepped down Monday after only days as Lohan's attorney.  According to Access Hollywood, Holley said after the court appearance, "I have been her attorney of record and I am going to continue to represent her."  TMZ.com reports Lohan is angry with Shapiro because she's convinced he only agreed to handle her case in the hopes of promoting his Pickford Lofts sober living facility in Los Angeles, which Lindsay herself entered last week.

Here are some other interesting tidbits about Lindsay's trip to the slammer:

  • TMZ.com reported Lohan was "polite, compliant and responsive" after being brought to Lynwood.  And, no, she didn't cry.
  • E! Online reports she's inmate number 2409752.
  • According to RadarOnline.com, jail officials wouldn't let Lohan bring her copy of Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man & the Sea to prison.  She's reportedly in the middle of reading it and her family is now looking into getting her a new copy to help her pass the time in her cell.
  • Lohan is staying at the same facility where Paris Hilton spent time in 2007 for violating her probation.
