Big Mel originally hailed from Chicago and is a singer/songwriter/producer and musician like many others, and he has been around music his whole life. Inspired by his family of talented musicians he was able grasp the fundamentals of music to put in his on composition to express his own style and melody. He says nothing makes you feel better than presenting something you’ve created and music was an escape. Big Mel absorbed the best Pop, Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, Gospel, Blues, Soul, the best music of all times. A former member of the legendary group Public Announcement under Atlantic Records recorded in 1994 their first album “Love Infinity”. 1998 Big Mel departed the group to pursue his solo career.
Big Mel credits James Harris III and Terrence Lewis “aka” Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis of the group “The Time” his accomplishments. As a producer Big Mel’s break came in the early 90’s as one of the founders of the group Subway, out of Chicago, that was signed to Biv10 Motown Records. Big Mel produced three songs that got the Brat signed to So So Def, Jermaine Dupri Record Label. 1994 Big Mel played a major part with a new Sparkle getting a deal with Motown.
Now he is back with the “Big Mel Radio Show” on V100 with Gospel, Blues, Soul, Hip Hop, and R & B. Make an appointment to be with Big Mel every Saturday from 5 – 7 p.m.
